Nu bekräftas de första deltagarna i höstens pilotprojekt för att testa den eldrivna transportbilen Ford Transit Custom i London. Syftet med projektet är att undersöka hur elektriska bilar kan bidra till en bättre luftkvalitet i storstäder. Bland de fem första flottorna klara att delta i projektet finns bland annat Londons polisstyrka, Metropolitan Police.

Ford startar under hösten ett projekt för att testa plug-in-hybriden Transit Custom i London. I projektet ska 20 av de nya eldrivna transportbilarna integreras i ett antal utvalda bilflottor som dagligen trafikerar Londons gator. En av de bilflottor som ska delta i projektet är Metropolitan Police:

– Det är viktigt för oss på Metropolitan Police att ha en hållbar fordonsflotta. Vi är så glada över att samarbeta med Ford i detta innovativa projekt för ett renare London, säger Jiggs Bharij, Head of Fleet Services, Metropolitan Police.

Utöver Londons polisstyrka bekräftas även Transport for London, Clancy Plant, Addison Lee och British Gaz som deltagande i projektet.

Datainsamling via Ford Telematics System
De eldrivna transportbilarna i projektet ska utrustas med Ford Telematics System, som samlar in information om fordonets ekonomiska, miljömässiga och operationella prestanda. Med hjälp av denna information hoppas Ford öka kunskapen om hur elbilar i framtiden kan bidra till en bättre luftkvalitet i storstäder.

Ford Transit som laddhybrid

Världens kanske mest klassiska namn när det gäller transportbilar blir utrustad med modern teknik. Tester ska nu utföras bland annat av poliser.

I somras nåddes vi av nyheten av att Ford Transit kommer som laddhybrid 2019 samt att testarbetet med modellen skulle starta senare i år. Nu får vi lite mer information om transportbilen och själva testarbetet.

Totalt ska 20 bilar ska rulla under tolv månader i utvärderingssyfte på Londons gator. Bilarna har en uppgiven räckvidd med enbart el på närmare fem mil och som räckviddsförlängare har den Fords beprövade EcoBoost-bensinmotor på en liter vilket ger fordonet en total räckvidd på 50 mil. De vätskekylda batterierna är placerad under golvet för att inte inverka på bilens lastutrymme.

Bland aktörerna som ska testa bilen märks Metropolitan Police, British Gas och Heathrow Airport. Data från testbilarna är möjlig att analysera även i realtid. Projektet har fått statligt stöd i form av 4,7 miljoner pund vilket motsvarar cirka 49 miljoner svenska kronor.

Ford har inte gjort det lätt för sig genom att utse London som testplats. Enligt egen uppgift utgörs rusningstrafiken till 75 procent av transportbilar och dessa gör omkring 280 000 resor en genomsnittlig dag och avverkar då uppskattningsvis 13 miljoner kilometer.

Några liknande siffror för svenska ständer finns inte men Naturvårdsverket har tidigare rapporterat att utsläppsminskningar från lätta lastbilar stannat av. Utsläppen av växthusgaser från dessa var 1,6 miljoner ton koldioxidekvivalenter år 2015 i Sverige. Det var en procent högre än vad utsläppen var år 2014, och 77 procent högre än utsläppen år 1990.

• Ford is to extend research into the use in urban areas of plug-in hybrid electric vans that run solely on electric power for most city trips

• The Transit Custom vans, already on trial in London, feature advanced electric powertrain, 1.0litre EcoBoost engine extends battery range

VALENCIA, Spain, May 9, 2018 – Among the toughest working environments for vans, cities offer significant challenges to moving people and delivering goods and services. Ford, which is already investigating how plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) could help in London, today announced it would also begin testing in Valencia, Spain.

The collaboration between Ford Smart Mobility, the regional government of Valencia and the Valencia City leadership, is designed to see how Transit Custom PHEV fleets could contribute to cleaner air targets and enhanced productivity.

“At Ford, we are committed to tackling urban mobility challenges, moving people and delivering goods and services through innovation and technology,” said Steven Armstrong, president and CEO, Ford of Europe, Middle East & Africa. “As no two cities are alike, it is vital that we look at the mobility issue from a variety of perspectives. Our research in Valencia will help us gain a meaningful understanding of the benefits that small and medium fleets running primarily on electric power can bring.”

Ford’s partnerships with the Generalitat Valenciana and the city of Valencia, not only complements testing in London, but reflects an investment of $11 billion that Ford is making in its electrified portfolio to include 40 electrified vehicles globally, including 16 full battery electric vehicles by 2022.

The focus in the Spanish city will be more regarding the use of small and medium fleets of Transit Custom PHEVs that are driven solely by an electric motor with a zero-emission target range of more than 50 kilometres (31 miles). The award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine serves as a range extender, eliminating range anxiety by charging the on-board batteries when longer trips are required.*

Scheduled for volume production in 2019, the Transit PHEV project reaffirms Ford’s commitment to Spain and Valencia as one of its most important manufacturing locations in Europe. Ford has invested more than €2.9 billion in Valencia since 2011, and in November 2017 Ford announced investment of more than €750 million in its Valencia Vehicle Operations to build the next generation Ford Kuga.

“Environmental and mobility challenges faced by cities like Valencia can only be addressed by strong leadership and bold innovation,” said Ximo Puig, Generalitat Valenciana President at the launch event. “We are delighted that Ford continues its commitment to the Comunitat Valenciana by bringing its innovative technologies to the city.”

Equipped with telematics and geofencing technology, twenty Transit Custom PHEV vans, are being used for the 12-month trial in London that Ford launched earlier this year, working with Transport for London and a variety of fleet customers, ranging from the Metropolitan Police to courier services and construction firms.

Elmotorn kan säkert fungera utmärkt för rena övervakningsrundor och dylikt som parkeringslappande , men blir det skarpt läge vill det nog till att där finns en kompletterande förbränningsmotor för prestanda och räckvidd. Numera finns ju ett problem med att administratörer med egna käpphästar får sista ordet även framför poliserna som ställs inför alltmer komplicerade situationer och ökade behov av kraftiga resurser medan samhällsbyggarna hellre fokuserar på mjuka frågor som miljöpåverkan och ekonomi.

• Working with the City of Cologne, in Germany, Ford seeks to better understand benefits for the environment and for customers of using Transit Custom plug-in hybrid electric vans
• The 10-vehicle trial will last 12 months, and will complement testing in London and Valencia, Spain. Vans are equipped with advanced series hybrid powertrains using the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine as a range extender

COLOGNE, Germany, Nov. 28, 2018 – Ford is to expand its exploration of the positive effects that the use of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) can have on cities, by commencing commercial vehicle trials in Cologne, Germany.

From spring 2019, Ford, supported by the City of Cologne, will operate a fleet of 10 Ford Transit Custom PHEVs with regional companies in the city to investigate the extent to which PHEVs can help to achieve urban air quality goals. Funded by Ford, the trial will initially run for 12 months, in cooperation with municipal fleets serving the public sector, complementing testing in London and Valencia, in Spain, with larger fleets and small-to-medium fleets respectively.

“Ford recognises Cologne as a city of strategic importance regarding future mobility. Together with the City of Cologne, we will start to investigate how we might in future look forward to urban areas that offer better air quality and can also be more productive,” said Gunnar Herrmann, chairman of the management board, Ford of Germany.

Ford announced the new trial at its “City of Tomorrow” symposium, in Cologne, which brought together thought leaders from the private and public sector, including urban planners, political decision makers and mobility experts, to discuss a common vision of the future of urban mobility.

“For the rapidly growing city of Cologne, emission-free mobility is a crucial issue for the future. Every research project that works towards this will benefit our city. I am glad that Ford, as an automotive manufacturer, with its European headquarters in Cologne, will undertake this trial,” said Henriette Reker, Mayor of the City of Cologne.

Two Transit Custom PHEV commercial vehicles each will be operated by the following regional companies: AWB Abfallwirtschaftsbetriebe Köln (waste management), Cologne Bonn Airport, Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln (harbour and freight traffic), Kölner Verkehrsbetriebe (public transport association) and RheinEnergie (regional energy company).

The Transit Custom PHEV has an advanced series hybrid system that targets a zero-emission range exceeding 50 kilometres (31 miles). This makes it ideal for the use in city traffic. As a range extender, it features the multi-award winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine that charges the on-board compact liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack as required to offer a total range of up to 500 kilometres (310 miles). The batteries have a storage capacity of 14 kWh and the installation of the battery pack under the load floor preserves the full cargo volume of the standard van. The front bumper offers a connection facility to fully charge the battery within three hours via a 240-volt power supply with 16 or 32 amperes.

All partners will use an already existing charging infrastructure and vehicles are equipped with telematics and geofencing systems that help to ensure that they are emission-free within pre‑determined low emission zones.

Ford is the No. 1 selling commercial vehicle brand in Europe, and last month Ford commercial vehicle sales in its European 20 markets hit their highest October level since 1993. At the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hannover, in Germany, in September, Ford showcased a production version of the Transit Custom PHEV that is due to go on sale in the second half of 2019. Ford plans the introduction of another 40 electrified models, including 16 all‑electric vehicles through 2022.
