Ford Reveals All-New Focus RS Sprints to 100 Km/h in 4.7 Seconds and Hits 266 km/h; Prices Start from €39,000

FRANKFURT, Germany, Sept. 16, 2015 – Ford Motor Company announced today at the Frankfurt Motor Show that the all-new Focus RS will sprint from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.7 seconds, making the high-performance hatchback the fastest accelerating RS model ever – as demonstrated in this new video.

The Focus RS will reach a top speed of 266 km/h (165 mph) powered by a specially engineered version of Ford’s new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine delivering maximum power output of 350 PS.
Ford also today announced the Focus RS is now available to order with prices in Germany starting from €39,000.

The all-new Focus RS optimises acceleration by introducing Launch Control technology to a Ford RS model for the first time. The model also debuts new Ford Performance All-Wheel Drive with Dynamic Torque Vectoring, for outstanding traction and grip with unmatched agility and cornering speed.

The Focus RS is joined on display in Frankfurt by the full Ford Performance line-up for Europe, including the all-new Ford GT ultra-high-performance supercar, Focus ST wagon and 5-door models, and the multi-award-winning Fiesta ST.

“All-new Focus RS hits 100 kilometres per hour in 4.7 seconds – and that’s about the time it will take customers to decide they want one after getting behind the wheel,” said Juergen Gagstatter, chief program engineer for Focus RS. “This car delivers ground-breaking technology with stunning handling and performance, all for a price which must give our premium competitors sleepless nights.”

The Focus RS Launch Control system configures the vehicle’s chassis and powertrain systems to deliver the fastest possible acceleration, whatever the track conditions. The driver selects Launch Control from the cluster menu, engages first gear, applies full throttle and then releases the clutch. The system then delivers optimum drive – including distributing torque through the
AWD system, maintaining maximum torque using turbo overboost function, managing the traction control system, and setting the dampers.

To achieve maximum acceleration through the gears, a performance shift light in the instrument cluster alerts the driver when approaching the optimum upshift point of 5,900 rpm, and flashes if the engine hits the limit of 6,800 rpm.

The Ford Performance AWD system uses twin electronically-controlled clutch packs to manage the car’s front/rear torque split, and also can control the side-to-side torque distribution on the rear axle – delivering the “torque vectoring” capability, which has a dramatic impact on handling and cornering stability.

The AWD system monitors inputs from multiple vehicle sensors 100 times per second. To deliver optimum driving dynamics, Ford Performance AWD was calibrated alongside the car’s advanced Electronic Stability Control, in particular the brake-based Torque Vectoring Control system that works in parallel with the torque-vectoring AWD.

Focus RS drivers can select four different Drive Modes that configure the AWD system, damper controls, Electronic Stability Control, steering and engine responses, and exhaust sound to deliver optimum performance in road or circuit driving conditions. Normal, Sport or Track settings are available, alongside a special Drift Mode to help the driver achieve controlled oversteer drifts under circuit conditions.

The new 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine for the all-new Focus RS shares its fundamental structure with the all-aluminium four-cylinder engine in the all-new Ford Mustang and is significantly upgraded for the Focus RS to deliver 10 per cent more power. The engine features a new low-inertia twin-scroll turbocharger with larger compressor, enhanced air intake design, and a large-bore high performance exhaust system.

Maximum torque of 440 Nm is delivered between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm, with 470 Nm available for up to 15 seconds on transient overboost during hard acceleration.

Developed by a team of Ford Performance engineers in Europe and the U.S., the all-new Focus RS is the third generation of Focus RS cars, following models launched in 2002 and 2009.

The Ford Performance organisation serves as an innovation laboratory and test bed to create unique performance vehicles, parts, accessories and experiences for customers. This includes developing innovations and technologies in aerodynamics, light-weighting, electronics, powertrain performance and fuel efficiency that can be applied more broadly to Ford’s product portfolio.

The 30th car to wear the legendary RS badge, the Focus RS will be built in Saarlouis, Germany, and is one of 12 new performance vehicles Ford will bring to customers globally through 2020 as part of a new era of Ford performance. Ford expects delivery to European customers from early 2016.

Under Frankfurtsalongen presenterar Ford det vi väntat på, prestandasiffrorna för nya Focus RS. 0–100 km/h går på 4,7 sekunder, toppar 265 km/h och Focus RS får ett mycket konkurrenskraftigt pris. Dessutom har bilen fått OK-stämpel av Ken Block – bara en sån sak!

FRANKFURT, Tyskland, Sept. 16, 2015 – Ford Motor Company meddelade idag på Frankurt Motor Show att helt nya Focus RS kommer klara sprinten 0-100 km/h på 4,7 sekunder, vilket gör den den till den snabbast accelererande RS-modellen från Ford någonsin – som kan ses i denna nya nya video.

Focus RS kommer kunna nå en toppfart på 266 km/h, med kraften från en speciellt utvecklad version av Fords nya 2,3-liter EcoBoost-motor som levererar en max effekt på 350 hk.

Ford meddelar idag också att priset i Sverige kommer starta på 384.300 kr, och att FordStore-anläggningarna i landet inom kort kommer starta försäljningen av Focus RS.

Nya Focus RS når den låga accelerationstiden bl a genom tekniken bakom Launch Control-systemet, som för första gången finns på en Ford RS-modell. Det är även första gången som den erbjuds med Ford Performance AWD (fyrhjulsdrift) med Dynamic Torque Vectoring för enastående grepp med oöverträffad snabbhet och möjlighet till höga kurvhastigheter.

På Frankfurt Motor Show visas Focus RS tillsammans med en full uppställning av modeller avsedda för Europa från Ford Performance, inclusive den helt nya supersportbilen Ford GT, Focus ST som både kombi- och kombisedan, och den flerfaldigt belönade Fiesta ST.

“Nya Focus RS når 100 km/h på 4,7 sekunder – och längre tid än så kommer inte krävas bakom ratten för att uppleva man verkligen vill ha den”, säger Juergen Gagstatter, chefsingenjör för Focus RS. “Den här bilen levererar banbrytande teknik tillsammans med fantastiska vägegenskaper och prestanda till ett pris som bör ge våra konkurrenter sömnlösa nätter.”

Systemet för Launch Control i Focus RS konfigurerear bilens chassie och drivlina för att ge snabbast möjliga acceleration, oavsett vilka vägförhållanden som råder. Föraren väljer Launch Controll i informationssystemet, lägger i första växeln, ger full gas och släpper därefter kopplingen. Systemet levererar optimalt grepp – inklusive att det fördelar kraften genom AWD-systemet, behåller maximalt vridmoment tack vare turbons overboost-funktion, hanterar antisladd-systemet och anpassar stötdämpningen.

För att få maximal acceleration upp genom växlarna, finns en växlingsindikator i instrumentklustret som uppmärksammar föraren när man närmar sig den optimala växlingspunkten vid 5.900 v/min, denna övergår sedan till att blinka när motorn når maxvarv vid 6.800 v/min.

Ford Performance AWD-systemet använder dubbla elektroniskt kontrollerade kopplingspaket för att hantera kraftfördelningen mellan främre och bakre hjulaxlarna, och kan samtidigt kontrollera fördelningen i sidled på den bakre axeln – därigenom ges möjligheten till “torque vectoring” som har en dramatisk effekt på både väghållning och stabilitet i kurvor.

AWD-systemet övervakar information från en mängd sensorer på fordonet 100 gånger per sekund. För att leverera bästa möjliga köregenskaper, kalibrerades Ford Performance AWD tillsammans med bilens avancerade elektroniska stabiliseringssystem (ESC), bland annat det bromsbaserade systemet Torque Vectoring Control som arbetar parallellt med vridmomentsfördelningen hos AWD-systemet..

Focus RS förare kan välja mellan fyra körlägen som konfigurerar AWD-systemet, stötdämpning, ESC, styring- och motorrespons, och avgasljud för att leverera bästa möjligt prestanda på såväl gata som bana. Inställningarna ”Normal”, ”Sport” och “Track” finns tillgängliga tillsammans med ett särskilt Drift Mode för att hjälp föraren att åstadkomma kontrollerad överstyrning och drifting under körning t ex på bana.

Den nya 2,3-liters EcoBoost-motorn för Focus RS delar den grundläggande strukturen med den helt nya fyrcylindriga aluminiuimmotorn som finns till Ford Mustang. Den är dock väsentligt uppgraderad för att ge Focus RS en effektökning med 10 procent. Motorn använder en ny twin-scroll turbo med lågt motstånd och större turbokompressor, större luftintag och ett högprestanda avgassystem med större diameter.

Det maximala vridmomentet på 440 Nm levereras mellan 2,000 och 4,500 v/min, där hela 470 Nm kan levereras under upp till 15 sekunder tack vare overboost-funktionen under hård acceleration. Utvecklad av ett team Ford Performance-ingenjörer i Europa och USA, är Focus RS den tredje generationen av just Focus RS, där tidigare modeller lanserades 2002 och 2009.

Ford Performance-organisationen fungerar som ett innovationslaboratorium och provbänk för att skapa unika prestandafordon, delar, tillbehör och upplevelser för kunderna. Detta inkluderar att utveckla innovationer och teknologier inom aerodynamik, lättviktsmaterial, elektronik, drivlinor och bränsleefektivitet som sedan kan användas i en större omfattning i Ford’s produktprogram.

Den 30:e modellen att bära det legendariska RS-emblemet, nya Focus RS, kommer byggas I Saarluis i Tyslkland och är en av 12 prestandamodeller som Ford globalt kommer leverera till kunder fram till 2020 som del av en ny era för Ford Performance. Ford förväntar sig att leveranser till kunder kommer starta tidigt 2016.
