Ford’s Fight for the World Endurance Championship Title Resumes in Germany

• Ford Chip Ganassi Racing to compete in Round 4 of the FIA World Endurance Championship at the Nürburgring, in Germany, this weekend
• Ford leads manufacturer’s title fight after securing a strong second place at Le Mans with the #67 Ford GT
• Drivers of the #67 Ford GT lead the drivers’ standings going into the next round

The battle for the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship resumes this weekend with the “6 Hours of Nürburgring” – and the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Team is on maximum attack, keen to maintain the momentum after a strong result at last month’s Le Mans 24 Hours.

The Nürburgring is the “home” circuit for Ford’s European headquarters in Cologne, in Germany, so the team will enjoy local support as it fights for top honours.

“With Le Mans behind us, we are now very much focused on the WEC championship,” said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. “The #67 Ford GT scored major points at Le Mans so we need to keep the momentum going this weekend in Germany and onwards as the team moves into the ‘long haul’ stretch of the season.”

In the GT FIA World Endurance Manufacturers Championship, Ford currently tops the table, just nine points ahead of last year’s winners, Ferrari.

Andy Priaulx (GB) and Harry Tincknell (GB) are riding high in the GT FIA World Endurance Drivers Championship, with an 11-point lead over the #97 Aston Martin crew. Team mates Stefan Mücke (GER) and Olivier Pla (FRA) are in fifth place, 31 points adrift of the sister #67 Ford GT but there are six races to go and everything to play for.

“It’s great to see Ford at the top of the manufacturers’ world title standings,” said Mücke. “It’s also good to see our team mates at the top of the drivers’ standings but Olivier (Pla) and I will be doing everything we can to get up there with them. Nürburgring is the home race for me so it is great to be racing there again.”

“We have an 11-point lead over the Aston Martin going into the Nürburgring,” said Priaulx. “But just behind the Aston is a Ferrari, then a Porsche. It’s 25 points for a win in WEC so we might be leading the championship but the competition is still wide open. The next two races in particular will be tough for us so we need to focus and score as many points as possible. Every point counts!”

The 6 Hours of Nürburgring takes place this Sunday at 13:00 CET.

NÜRBURGRING, Germany, July 16, 2017 – The Ford Chip Ganassi Racing team battled through a difficult race at the Nürburgring in Germany today, finishing in fifth and sixth places respectively in the GTE Pro class with the #67 and #66 Ford GTs. This result means that Andy Priaulx (GB) and Harry Tincknell (GB) retain their 11-point lead in the FIA World GT Endurance Drivers’ Championship and Ford is now in second place in Manufacturers’ World Championship, level on points with Ferrari.

“We came here knowing that with the adjustments we had following our success at Silverstone and Spa and the fact that the Nürburgring isn’t one of the tracks best suited to our car, that it would be challenge and it proved to be just that,” said George Howard-Chappell, WEC Team Principal. “The team and the drivers all performed extremely well despite a couple of unfortunate incidents.”

During the first hour of the race the #66 Ford GT, which Olivier Pla (FRA) had elevated to third place, was hit by the #92 Porsche, which damaged the car, making it difficult to drive for Pla and team mate Stefan Mücke (GER) for the remainder of the race. Then, not long after the halfway mark, Tincknell was pushed off by an LMP1 Porsche, which delayed the #67 Ford GT.

“This put us in a situation where we couldn’t overhaul the lead Aston Martin, which was really our target,” said Howard-Chappell. “Our congratulations go to Ferrari who did very well today. We knew the Porsches would be strong but didn’t know where we were compared to Ferrari. It’s not all going to go our way all of the time - that’s the nature of this type of racing. We came out of it a little bruised and battered but it wasn’t a disaster by any means.”

Andy Priaulx and Harry Tincknell qualified the #67 Ford GT in sixth position on Saturday and it was Priaulx who started the race on Sunday afternoon.

“Despite the fact that we finished in fifth place we had a brilliant race in the #67 Ford GT,” said Priaulx. “I stayed in for a double stint after starting the race and we made the call to stay on used tyres, which gave us the jump on the sister Ford GT. Harry did a great job in the middle part of the race and if the Porsche hadn’t hit him we would have been 40 seconds up the road and in fourth place! I had a great run again after that and the end result of our efforts today is that we have maintained our lead in the championship.”

The sister Ford GT of Olivier Pla and Stefan Mücke qualified in fourth place but the #66 Ford GT took more than its fair share of knocks on the way to sixth place today.

“The race started quite well for us,” said Pla. “I was able to move up to third right away and hold position behind the #91 Porsche. Halfway through that first stint I got hit hard on the right rear wheel by the #92 Porsche, which must have caused damage, as we had to fight the balance of the car from that moment on. My battle with the Aston Martin later on in the race wasn’t much fun as he was parking me at every apex and then driving away from me on the straights. Maybe I was too patient with him this time!”

The next round of the FIA World Endurance Championship takes place in Mexico City on September 3.

COLOGNE, Germany, July 19, 2017 – The all-new Ford GT delivers the thrill of the Le Mans-winning race car for drivers on the road, using more than 50 different sensors to monitor vehicle performance and behaviour, external environment, and driver inputs for an optimised driving experience – alongside road car comfort and convenience.

The ultra-high-performance Ford GT’s sensors provide real-time information on factors from the positions of pedals, steering wheel and deployable rear wing, to air humidity and sunshine levels.

Data is generated at a rate of 100 GB – equivalent to about 25,000 song downloads – per hour, and is processed by more than 25 onboard computing systems comprising 10 million lines of software code – more than a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fighter jet.*

Between them, the systems can analyse 300 MB of data – comparable to downloading an hour-long TV show – every second.

“The Ford GT’s sophisticated computing systems work hand-in-hand with the vehicle’s core race car architecture to enhance performance, and also deliver greater versatility and flexibility,” said Dave Pericak, Ford Performance global director. “By constantly monitoring inputs, vehicle loads and environment, and adjusting the car’s profile and responses to suit, the Ford GT remains as responsive and stable at 300 km/h as it is at 30 km/h.”

Many of Ford GT’s sensor and computing systems enable the performance of the supercar’s engine, electronic stability control, F1-derived active suspension damping, and active aerodynamics to be continuously adjusted within the parameters of the selectable Drive Modes, for optimal performance in any driving scenario.

Others help deliver comfort and convenience whether on road or track, including Ford’s SYNC 3 communications technology and automatic climate control.

Further innovative solutions to deliver a race car experience and 347 km/h (216 mph) top speed for Ford GT drivers include the fixed seating position. The driver’s seat base is secured in the location that enabled Ford Performance engineers to develop a carbon fibre body with the lowest possible frontal area for optimised aerodynamic performance.

Rather than moving the seat fore and aft, drivers instead adjust the pedal assembly position and the multi-control steering wheel to suit the seat location.

Yet despite the focus on delivering a race car experience for just 1000 customers across four years of confirmed production, the Ford GT also offers creature comforts familiar from Ford family cars.

Retractable cup holders are among the convenience features that distinguish the Ford GT road car from the race car. Made from aluminium for reduced weight, the cup holders are concealed within the centre console. A hidden storage bin is located under the driver’s seat, with further storage pockets behind the seats.

The Ford GT even features the Ford Easy Fuel capless fuel filler system that is standard on models across the Ford range. The system is designed for ease of refuelling and to prevent misfuelling of the 647 horsepower** 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine.

“We developed the Ford GT road car and race car side-by-side, and that led to some creative engineering, such as the road car’s fully integrated roll cage that also meets FIA racing safety requirements using only a small number of add-on components,” Pericak said. “From the turbochargers to the cup holders, every component of the Ford GT has been developed with the driving experience at its core.”

COLOGNE, Germany, Aug. 15, 2017 – The Ford GT will be available in a new limited-edition Heritage theme honouring the GT40 Mark IV race car driven to victory by Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt at Le Mans in 1967. The car will feature unique interior and exterior colour themes, and an exclusive wheel finish.

“In creating a worthy successor to the ’66 Heritage edition, we logically looked at our next historic Le Mans victory with the all-American team of Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt,” said Dave Pericak, global director, Ford Performance. “The Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition pays homage to that win, with a modern take on one of the most important vehicles in Ford’s storied history of racing.”

The Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition features a gloss-finish Race Red exterior with white stripes and exposed carbon package. The car sports Frozen White No. 1 hood and door graphics, and 20-inch one-piece forged aluminum wheels in silver satin clearcoat with black wheel nuts. Red callipers and silver rearview mirror caps complete the look.

The interior features new leather trimming for the carbon fibre seats, with red accent stitching, which carries over to the steering wheel. The seat belt webbing is now red and the paddle shifters are anodised grey. Satin dark stainless appliqués are used on the instrument panel, door register bezels and x-brace.

Rounding out modifications to the ’67 Heritage edition car are a unique serialised identification plate, plus exposed matte carbon fibre door sills, air register pods and centre console.

“The first Heritage edition car was a huge success, honouring our history with a modern interpretation of the Le Mans winner,” said Garen Nicoghosian, exterior design manager for the car. “Continuing with a Ford GT based on the winning GT40 Mark IV race car was simply something we needed to do.”

The Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition can be viewed at FordGT.com using the configuration tool. Limited quantities will be available for the forthcoming model year.

29:e juni - 2:a juli Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen (Watkins Glen International):
Helgen började bra då Joey Hand kvalde in bil #66 som han delar med Dirk Mueller på första plats, bil #67 med Richard Westbrook och Ryan Briscoe kvalade in på en fin 4:e plats.
Man orkade inte riktigt hänga med under racet men bil #67 lyckades klättra upp till en 2:a plats medans bil #66 slutade på en 4:e plats.

7:e - 9:e juli Mobil 1 SportsCar Grand Prix (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park):
Under kvalet var det bil #67 som var bäst av de båda GT-bilarna och kvalade in på en 5:e plats, #66 kvalade in på en 6:e plats.
Under racet bättrade de båda bilarna på sina palaceringar och vid målflagg så hade bil #67 en podiumplacering med sin 3:e plats och bil #66 slutade på en 5:e plats.

21:a - 22:a juli Northeast Grand Prix (Lime Rock Park)
Bil #67 kvalade in på finfin en 2:a plats och bil #66 på en 7:e plats.
En racet gick det sämre för bil #67 som slutade på en 5:e plats medans bil #66 slutade där man kvalade in, på en 7:e plats.

3:e - 6:e augusti Continental Tire Road Race Showcase (Road America)
Om förra racet var en besvikelse för teamet så var detta race desto bättre, en förklaring är att man till detta race fick öka på laddtrycket efter ett par dåliga resultat.
Man kvalde in som 1:a och 2:a där bil #66 drog det längsta strået.
Bil #66 lyckades förvalta den fina kvalplaceringen med en vinst och bil #67 fick en fin 3:e plats.

25:e - 27:e augusti Michelin GT Challenge at VIR (Virginia International Raceway)
Detta race visade man samma fina form med bil #66 som kvalde in på en 1:a plats och bil #67 som kvalde in på en 7:e plats.
Det var bil #67 som placerade sig bäst när man ärvde 2:a platsen efter att bil #66 råkade ut för en incident, bil #66 kom in på en 5:e plats till slut.

Det återstår 2 lopp i serien, den 24: september och 7 oktober.
För närvarande ligger bil #66 på en 3:e plats och bil #67 på en 4:e plats i mästerskapet.

Ford GT kör Atlanthavsvägen i Norge – slår banrekord vid världens nordligaste racebana

Ford GT har huvudrollen i senaste avsnittet av Fords serie ”Europas mest körglada bilvägar”. Denna gång befinner sig inspelningsteamet vid Norges kustlinje och den enastående Atlanthavsvägen. Längs sträckan stannar GT:n till vid världens nordligaste racebana, Arctic Circle Raceway, och slår banrekord.

Atlanthavsvägen i Norge löper över åtta broar som sammanbinder städerna Kårvåg och Vevang. Längs sträckan ligger världens nordligaste racebana, Arctic Circle Raceway. I det senaste avsnittet av Fords serie ”Europas bästa bilvägar” får du se Ford GT ta sig an den vackra sträckan, och Ford Chip Ganassi-föraren Stefan Mücke som utmanar Arctic Circle-banan och slår banrekord.

– Atlanthavsvägen i Norge måste du uppleva på plats för att kunna förstå dess storhet. Endast en hårdhudad cyniker kan undvika att låta sig hänföras av sträckans skönhet. Jag blev tvungen att bryta vårt rankingsystem och gav vägens omgivningar betyget 11/10. Att få se valar från bilfönstret var helt otroligt, säger Steve Sutcliffe, internationellt erkänd motorjournalist.

21:a - 24:e september Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix
Kvalet slutade med bil #66 på en 2:a plats och bil #67 på en 5:e plats, loppet gick inte riktigt lika bra för bil #66 som slutade på en 6:e plats medans bil #67 behöll samma placering som i kvalet.

4:e - 7:e oktober Motul Petit Le Mans
Ett lovande kval där bil #67 lyckades få den näst snabbaste tiden (bara 0,045s efter men en bestraffning såg till att flytta dem till sista plats), medans bil #66 "bara" orkade med en 4:e snabbaste tid (0,069s efter), loppet var en liten besvikelse då man länge såg ut att kunna få en pallplacering men bil #66 slutade på en 7:e plats och bil #67 som ändå lyckades sluta på en 8:e plats trots att man fick starta sist av alla.

Bil #66 slutade ändå på en hedrande 3:e plats och bil #67 på en 4:e plats (båda teamen fick dock lika många poäng) i IMSA-mästerskapet.

14:e - 16:e september Cota
En stark insats av bil #67 sluatde men en 2:a plats i kvalet medans bil hamnade på en 5:e plats, en riktigt dålig racedag för dem båda GT-bilarna där bil #67 slutade på en 7:e plats, och nätt och jämnt behöll 1:a platsen i mästerskapet, och bil #66 slutade på en 8:e plats.

13:e - 15:e Fuji
Lovande kval där bil #67 slutade på en 2:a plats och bil #66 på en 3:e, riktigt dåligt väder såg till att stoppa racet efter 4,5 timme av 6 och vädret ställde till det ordentligt under loppet också då bil #67, i ledningen, hamnade utanför banan och slutade på en 8:e plats medans bil #66 kämpade sig till en 4:e plats.

3:e - 5:e november Shanghai
Ännu ett lovande kval där bil #67 slutade på en 2:a plats och bil #66 på en 3:e, bil #67 gjorde ett riktigt kanonlopp och lyckades hålla undan för att ta 1:a platsen och på så sätt har man fortfarande chansen att kunna ta förarmästerskapet. Bil #66 hamnade precis utanför prispallen på en 4:e plats.

Sista racet körs i Bahrain den 16:e - 18:e november.

När man köper en GT så får man skriva på ett kontrakt som säger att man inte får sälja bilen inom 2 år, bilsamlaren Ron Pratte lyckades dock övertala Ford och han auktionerade bort sin GT och pengarna skänkte han till välgörenhet. 2,55 miljoner dollar landade slutbudet på! It wasn't just Chevrolet raising big bucks for charity during the past weekend's Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. In fact, it was a Ford that raised the most funds, in this case a 2017 GT that sold on Saturday—with Ford's full blessing—for $2.55 million.

The car was offered up by car collector Ron Pratte, with the proceeds going to The Autism Society of North Carolina’s Ignite Program and the Autism Alliance of Michigan.

Första GT:n i Europa levererad!

First European Customers Receive Their Ford GT Supercars

In April 2016, 6,506 car enthusiasts from around the world applied to purchase one of the first 500 production Ford GT supercars. Now, for one lucky applicant in Scandinavia, the wait is over after receiving the keys to one of the very first Ford GTs to be delivered to a customer in Europe.

Jason Watt, a racing driver from Denmark, is now the owner of a new 347 km/h (216 mph) supercar. In race car form the Ford GT was designed to take on the Le Mans 24 Hours and win, a feat it achieved at the first attempt in 2016. In road form, the Ford GT uses a carbon fibre body, 655 PS 3.5‑litre EcoBoost V6 engine and technology including Drive Modes to deliver a road-legal experience that’s as close to a race car as it gets.

Jason’s new Ford GT is the first in his home country of Denmark, and the whole of Scandinavia. And just like the previous generation 2005 Ford GT that he used to own, this Ford GT is being modified so that it can be hand-operated by Jason, who was paralysed from the chest down following a motorcycle accident in 1999. A roof rack will be fitted so that Jason can easily transport his wheelchair.

“My Ford GT is probably the world's fastest car that can park in disabled parking spaces,” said Jason, at the handover event in Copenhagen.

Well-known car guy, actor, and comedian Tim Allen has a new toy he wants to show off, and it's none other than the Ford GT.

Allen is one of the lucky few to have been selected by Ford to purchase a new GT, as was Allen's longtime pal, Jay Leno. Leno already detailed his GT in his own video, but Allen took to YouTube earlier this month to introduce the world to his "silver spaceship."

Two rules, per Allen, when watching the video: don't comment on his hair or his shirt. Now that the regulations are out of the way, we can talk about the video.

Allen's video attempts to detail the good and the bad about the GT. The good? It's fast, it corners, and it's unlike anything the celebrity has ever driven. The bad? It's not a very good car for traveling and there's isn't room for much of anything. Allen humorously points out there isn't even space for the GT's keyring tag from the factory.

Allen's in a bit of a persona here, and his tone may not seem too excited, but inside, we bet he's giddy as can be over the 647-horsepower supercar. Check out the introduction video for yourself above. Oh, and nice hair and shirt, Tim.

Ford employees can choose exclusive "Victory" paint scheme for GT

Customers lucky enough to get their hands on a Ford GT have a wide range of exterior colors to choose from, but they won't see this particular paint scheme on the options sheet. It's called "Victory," and the paint scheme is exclusive to Ford employees.

None other than the man behind the reborn GT program, Raj Nair, now executive vice president and president of Ford North America, took delivery of the special car, which boasts a swath of colors similar to the supercar's racing team colors, and our friends from Ford GT Forums were on hand to capture the event. Nair's GT sports colors similar to the 2018 racing livery.

Bill Ford, executive chairman, and Mark Fields, former CEO, had their GTs specified in the "Victory" livery with the 2016-2017 race team colors—the same colors that crossed the finish line first in its class at the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, 50 years after Ford's historic 1-2-3 finish at Le Mans.

The three exterior colors are Liquid Red, Frozen White, and Lightning Blue, which look stunning on a road-going car. Additionally, the special GTs receive "GT" badging on the doors along with a flag representing the car's home country. Never mind the fact the GT is actually assembled in Canada by Multimatic.

As if Nair's GT wasn't special enough, it's also serial number 0001 for the 2018 production run. Ford committed to building 250 units of the supercar in 2017 and 2018, then said it would build another 250 a year for two more years. That, combined with the $450,000 price tag, make this car quite exclusive. Ford built 4,000 units of the previous-generation GT from 2004-2006, meaning many previous GT owners who would like to upgrade to the new car will miss out.
